We love people who live their life in a beautiful way and fill their life with beautiful things that they love. Aleen Apanian has created The Dark Horse Jewellery, the ultimate online destination for the coveted designer and hard to find artisan jewellery from around the globe. We have loved The Dark Horse Jewellery and all their beautiful things from the beginning of its time when it was launched in 2012. Having recently been stocked at The Dark Horse Jewellery which for us was a dream come true, we have now fallen in love with the women behind this treasure.
What does The Dark Horse stand for
TDH stands for anyone and everyone. My whole intention was to make different brands attainable in one location. I wanted an online company as I wanted it to be accessible to everyone, I also made a point of housing smaller and bigger brands. It is all about options in jewellery and accessibility, we hope TDH makes that easier.
Please tell us how your love for jewellery began
As cliché as this sounds, jewellery has been a love of mine since being a child. Before 'style' came into the picture, I would stack my arms up with bangles and wear big earrings. My family would laugh and say they could hear me walking in without even seeing me, my jewellery was always so loud!
What lead you to create The Dark Horse Jewellery and at what moment did you passions for jewellery turn into a career
I tried my hand at making jewellery in college and I felt like it didn't satisfy me. I wanted to talk to people about their designs and connect with others, showcase their jewels! I worked at a couple online stores throughout college and after it, I felt like this was something I wanted to try and was lucky enough to have a very supportive family. I started TDH out of my grandma's house!
You have the ability to find pieces of jewellery that change not only the way you look, but also have the power to transform the way you feel from the inside. What do you look for when searching for and sourcing jewellery for yourself and your customers
I try and look at trend pieces but also those pieces that excited me. I find the jewels that excite me the most are always the best sellers and we work so much better when we are happy and excited. The whole process is better, from organising the launch to blog posts, you feel inspired and I feel my customers notice that.
You certainly have an eye for beautiful things but you are also talented in the design of making beautiful things. You have collaborated with designers such as Sarina Suriano to create pieces but also have your own exclusive range of jewellery. Can you tell us more about this and where you find your passion.
Our exclusive range is always about trend and what our customers asked us for. We always listen, we sometimes receive random emails letting us know what they want. It is so important for me to listen to our customers, they are what keep TDH alive
Jewellery trends to watch this season and the one jewellery piece that will always be timelessly in style
Chokers or neck tie's are a BIG trend this year! In regards to timeless jewellery, personally I feel delicates will always be beautiful. You could wear them for years, layer then and make them apart of your everyday style. They then become apart of your story and that is exactly what TDH is about.
My style is
A little boyish, with a feminine twist.
I live for
Tea, honest meaningful conversations, my husband, my family, my fur baby and growing TDH!
The future is
Unknown and exiting
Words I live by
Trust that whatever is meant to be will be. Everything happens for a reason and sometimes the hardest times are the greatest for growth and hopefully you will look back in hindsight and appreciate.
